Brassed Off

Running from 23 August until 2 September 2017,  Brassed Off saw Alex's professional debut. Produced in-house by The Wolverhampton Grand alongside Talking Scarlet, the play is an adaptation of the 1996 film by Mark Herman (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas). Adapted for the stage by Paul Allen (Herod the Great), Brassed Off was the first in-house production at The Grand in a massive forty years.

Set during the miner's strike, the play follows the struggles of  The Grimley Colliery Band after the closure of their pit and features strong themes of community, family and young love. Grimethorpe Colliery Band provided the music for the original film and the plot was based on their own hardships following their pit closure. This production of the stage adaptation featured live music from The City of Wolverhampton Brass Band and starred sitcom legend Jeffrey Holland (Hi-de-Hi!, You Rang M'Lord?) as the band leader, Danny. Alex appeared as his grandson, Craig.
